Why Create a Reflective Portfolio?
- Understand the purpose of your Portfolio of Competence
- Learn how to set up your personal portfolio in Canvas
- Organise your files and reflections systematically
- Prepare for ongoing portfolio development throughout the course
Your Reflective Supervision Portfolio is your personal record of growth throughout this course. It's where you'll store reflections, supervision evidence, and artefacts from live sessions — ultimately forming your Portfolio of Competence for assessment and professional recognition.
By the end of the course, your Portfolio will show:
- How your understanding of supervision has developed over time
- Evidence of your skills and reflective capacity
- Samples of your supervision documentation, session notes, and journal entries
- Alignment with the Tripod Model – Learning, Accountability, and Wellbeing
This becomes a professional resource you can continue using beyond the course — for FDR supervision, accreditation, and CPD documentation.
How to Create Your Portfolio in Canvas
Follow these steps carefully — you'll only need to set it up once.
Step 1: Access Your Private Files
- From your LMS Dashboard, click your Account icon (top left of the global navigation menu)
- Select Files
- You'll see your personal file space - this is private to you and not visible to other students
Step 2: Create a Folder for This Course
- Click + Folder and enter the name:
FDR Supervision Reflective Portfolio – [Your Name]
- Click Create Folder and open it
- Inside, create subfolders for easy organisation
Suggested Folder Structure
| Folder Name | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Reflection Journal Entries | Store your Reflection Journal Entries as you move through the course |
| Supervision Agreements & Records | Records of any supervision you participate in as supervisor |
| Workplace Debriefing Records & Evidence | Evidence from debriefing activities undertaken |
| Tools and Resources | A repository for any tools and resources you collect along the journey |
| Professional Development Plan | Final reflection and ongoing goals |
Tip: Keeping folders consistent helps you stay organised and assessment-ready.
Step 3: Add and Organise Your Files
You can store any of the following directly in your Canvas Files area:
- Reflective Journal templates (Word or PDF)
- Uploaded reflections from your modules
- Notes or documents from your supervision practice
- Observation or roleplay feedback forms
- Screenshots or evidence of learning activities
You can drag and drop files directly from your desktop or mobile device.
Step 4: Update Your Portfolio After Each Module
At the end of each module:
- Save your Reflective Journal Entry or upload the file
- Add supervision evidence (if applicable)
- Write a short summary (optional Word or text file) describing what you learned and how it links to practice
Reflection is most powerful when captured soon after the experience — don't wait until the end.
Step 5: Prepare for Final Submission
When your portfolio is complete:
- Review all files for confidentiality and completeness
- Confirm you've included:
- At least 3 Reflective Journal Entries
- Evidence from 3 supervision sessions (anonymised)
- Your Professional Development Plan
- Compress your folder into a single .zip file (if submitting via upload)
- Upload your folder or file into the final assignment: Final Portfolio Submission – FDR Supervision Training
Confidentiality Reminder
Always maintain confidentiality and ethical standards:
- Do not include client names or identifying details
- Refer to participants generically (e.g., "the parent", "the practitioner", "the supervisor")
- Only share your portfolio with your facilitator when asked to submit it for assessment
Ongoing Use After the Course
Even after completion, you can:
- Continue adding reflections for your CPD log
- Store supervision evidence for AMDRAS renewal and/or FDR Practitioner audit
Think of your portfolio as a mirror for your professional growth — one that you can keep polishing long after the course ends.
